It's not a "drop screw." It's a repetition lever upstop screw.

Its function is to stop the upward travel of the repetition lever so that this lever does not apply pressure against the
hammershank knuckle when the key is fully depressed. If the repetition lever were allowed to apply pressure to the
hammershank knuckle with the key fully depressed the hammer would be held against the strings and dampen their motion. It has
been mis-named the "drop-screw" only because of the way in which it is regulated.
