Ron, I like very much Jon's suggestions, and would add that I have found it useful to carry a brass pedal rod for doing parts of this adjustment. If one deliberately sets the rod at the rest position such that it is slightly above and toward the fallboard of its eventual position and then snugly, but not too tightly, sets the adjustment screws on the rod supports, one can then gently tap the rod into position _with the action in place_. Save a good deal of in-and-out time. Scott Jones class on the Steinway damper system is worth attending. Hope this helps save you some time.
