One method that works quite well with some makes is to drop in a piece of
wood to hold back the rods. The wood we use is the pice that Yamaha uses to
hold the hammer shanks down in shipping and is the right size-1" X 1/4" X
51".

We usually use the twisty type of tie wraps to hold the piece of wood in
place, (similar to what holds the end of a bread bag closed but longer.

Some brands even have a slot where the pice of wood fits right in,
presumably for that purpose.
