Soap damaged pinblocks?

Dear Carol:

It was my distinct impression that the greatest cause for the loosy
goosey tuning pins in the bottom few pins is that during the rubbing
down of the case, the lubricant used seeps into the pinblock and
eventually causes this symtom. Soap is used on other plate screws
which are just as close to the pins and does not seem to bother their
holding ability. If factories would completely mask off the block
while rubbing down the case, this problem should be terminated.
