I agree that a tuner  needs  to understand and be able to apply the concepts
of aural tuning.  Once this is understood, the tuner can then use whatever
technology is available to accomplish the desired goal.  Doctors spend many
years training in biology, etc.   Would you be comfortable with a Doctor who
disbelieved in the use of X-Rays ?  If this Doctor needed to do an emergency
fix in the field he could do it, but certainly would follow up his procedure
with tests and X-rays, etc.   Technology is always spurned by some.  The time
will come when "every" piano tuner will be using ETD's to some extent.
  Until that time, there will always be those who prefer the horse and buggy
to the Concorde.
P.S.  It is pouring rain right now and there is a guy cutting the grass in my
complex.  Go figure?
