Avery: Our older NY "D" is now 14 years old and it is going out for restringing, new hammers, shanks, reps. etc. this week. The hammers are not that old, replaced about 7 years ago, but they are from Steinway's "Bunny" series (really soft and with really short tails.) They got doped to death to make them work. Now they don't work very well. I really think 12 - 15 years is about it on an instrument that has had that kind of use, yet still has this kind of expectation. dave -- _______________________________________________ David M.
