Warren;
1. They are usually press fit, I believe, but I would braze it in. (or use CA
Glue)
2. The originals are brass, so they don't have to be too awfully strong.  I
use a piece of brass stock from the hobby shop.
3. When the sustenuto is working properly there is not much pressure on the
"stirrup".
4. Polish the new wire 'before' bending.
5. Rule of thumb for sustenuto work "firmly held is good, tightly held is
not."
