A MIDI file is not a sound file like a WAV sound for example.  It only
conveys a description of a sound in terms of pitch, velocity,
duration, volume, designated instrument, etc.  The sound by itself has
to be produced by a synthesisers.  The reason I guess RCT and SAT use
MIDI protocol is because the standard already deals with notes and
pitchs descriptions.
