Impact tuning hammer

Rogerio:
The tuning hammer you purchased from APSCO is not defective. It is
designed to turn the tuning pin by the impact of the parts in the tip of
the hammer. You need to hold the hammer with your hand close to the tip
of the tuning hammer, not at the end of it, and using a wrist movement
(like you would use to turn on the shower faucet) whip the end
of the hammer in the direction you wish to turn the pin.The momentum you
create by moving the lever is transferred to the pin as the parts in the
hammer bang together (this is the "impact"). Using the lever in the
normal way doesn't allow you to take advantage of the design. Using a
tuning hammer in the normal manner (using a slow pull on it) tends to
leave a twist the pin unless you are very careful to set the pin
properly. The impact method, using this new kind of tuning hammer,
tends to move the pin in the block with a minimum of torque (twist) left
in the tuning pin. You can also use a regular tuning hammer to get a
similar effect by hitting the hammer with your palm rather than pulling
on it while you tune. The impact of your palm hitting the pin has a
similar effect as using the impact hammer as described above.
I hope I have not confused you by my description. Good luck!
