The fine art of digression...

For Newton and anyone interested in changing action stack height - you 
should use the strings as your reference not a table, and make sure that if 
you raise it you still have enough clearance to get the whole thing back 
into the piano.  If you want to talk about specs, you going to have to give 
us a call (800) 366-1853.

For Richard and anyone else who wants to study the temperaments used by 
Steinway & Sons before the turn of the century - we would recommend that

Roy is the unofficial Steinway historian and knows more about the company's 
technical history than any man alive.  Dr. Lieberman is in charge of the 
company's archives, wrote the book "Steinway & Sons", and has access to the 
Helmholtz correspondence.
