On the other hand it sure spurs a lot of interest in pianos. >James Grebe Hi James and the liszt, I agree, these sales can be construed as a less than honorable way to sell, but there's a BIG HOWEVER, I'd like to throw in here . First off, the price agreed upon is the price paid, and the price is negotiable. Secondly, them pianners ain't doin any of us any good sittin on the sales floor now are they. Third, we gotta support the dealers. That's where the future is. They sell, we fix. The more they sell, the more we fix. If they sell with, at first glance, higher than normal prices, well, that's the buyer's problem, not ours. There's always a way to answer the customer's questions without bashing the dealer. If you come up short, LIE!! For instance, the customer asks, "Are dem sail prices fair or are dey higher den usual hey??" Here's a good place to lie and put the ball in the buyers court. Say something harmless like, "I really couldn't tell you, I don't keep track of retail" or something to that effect. I don't keep track of retail so that I don't have to lie when that question comes along. Most dealers don't want me to know what prices are anyway. That's their department. If you have a problem making stuff up over the phone about the subject, then dummy up about it. Get stupid about sale pricing. That's what I've done and have found it to be easy to live with. But then, I've been getting stupider as the years go on anyway, so for some I guess it comes natural. Finally, I post this with no intention of misleading y'all about James or anyone else that has a problem with dealer pricing. We should all operate in an honorable fashion, and sometimes that means we should look the other way and let the benefits out weigh the (what ever the opposite is (synapse failure)).
