Hi Susan (and other interested folk) Bob Scott, creator of TuneLab97 says that a Pentium processor (90 mhz or better) is pretty much needed. However, this is the low end of the spectrum for notebooks. You might be able to find a used one, but at that speed, Windows 95 will definitely crawl. Windows 95 expects 16 Meg of memory (more is always nice). Before you invest in all that hardware, be sure that this is what you want. TuneLab97 is not a forget-the-program-and-tune kind of program like the RCT, but I see it as more of a workshop and 'experimental' rig. But this doesn't mean it's limited, far from it!, Having made and stored tunings, you can easily use TuneLab to re-create desired tunings, and temperaments. It is fairly accurate re: stretch, but can be pretty stupid over scaling changes. It's up to you to keep all this in mind when working with the program. I find I'm tuning the program as well as the piano when I'm using it, and learning about scaling changes in the process. I'll be at the Banff convention with my laptop rig, happy to play with the program and lend it out (on a real long, heavy chain....)
