Touchweight

I have trouble imagining a Yamaha with such high touch weight. You must
measure the down weight AND the up weight in such a manner as to make
the hammer rise and fall at the same volacity (slowly) while thumping
the action stack hard enough as to not hurt yourself or the action.

You must average the two measurements to get the balance weight, a much
more informative number, and subtract the up weight from the down weight
and devide that number by two. This will give you the friction
component which if higher than 10 or 12 grams will tell you if your
problem is friction and not touch weight. Go after the friction first.

If your balance weight exceeds 40 grams then you do indeed have a touch
weight problem that should be analysized to determine it's cause.

Review the articles by David Stanwood. Search the archives for his name
and you will get a wealth of information about touch weight.

Let me know what you find.
