Sticking Jacks

Philip:
	Is this a drop action?
You might look at the jack stop rail. If it is set too close, your
jack will wedge itself between the rail and the butt. If this is the
case, loosen the screws and slide it toward you just a little.
I would also check the blow distance. If it is too far, you might also
have this problem, since a compact spinet action (short hammer shanks)
has to arc more than one with longer shanks. This means that your
hammers will be leaning back at more of an angle, and that the jacks are
more likely to get jammed up. You could try lessening the hammer blow
by shimming up the hammer rail. Put in a punching under the rail
temporarily and see if it helps (adjust the lost motion to compensate).
Also, check to see that the checking distance isn't too far (again, the
shanks are going to have to arc more if the checking distance is too
great, thus the shank/butt will lean back at too great an angle).
	Hope this helps. Good luck!
