Good idea, Ralph. But make that about 30 minutes from downtown Providence
by car. This would make it <10 miles. (We find it more useful to measure
distance in minutes in these built up areas.)

I might mention that there is a very nice restaurant in Warren, R.I. on the
way to Bristol, called the Nathanial Porter Inn: excellent food, chiefs
from Johnson & Wales culinary arts school; restored colonial decor. Do
obtain reservations. They have a great Sunday a.m. buffet.

If you get to Bristol early enough ahead of the parade, or, for that matter,
on any other day too, you will enjoy taking the Mount Hope Bridge further
south to Newport, R.I. Among many good eating spots are two on either side
of the Coast Guard station. Having eaten at both of them I can say they
have a great Sunday a.m. brunch with lots of atmosphere and a beautiful
view. I think Del will second this.

In Newport itself there are shops, piers, colonial things, beautiful
mansions open for touring, many good eating spots, and lots else to do
there. Walking the shops is a good easy afternoon. It would take days to
tour all the mansions: very impressive.
