Hello List! A little puzzle for today. Last night I took my kids to the school where my wife works to hear a concert by The Youth Concert Band of Moscow State Wind College. There was a 13 year old who was to play the Grieg concerto arranged for piano and wind band. The piano (Yamaha 6 foot) started out stage right and was moved into place just before the concerto. Konstantin Chamrai, the performer, came out, sat down and gave a pitch from the piano. He gave a funny look and tried a few more times, then played some chords. The dampers were ringing through on a bunch of notes! I waited to see if the tech was around before offering my services. They switched the order of pieces around while I went backstage. The piano had been tuned that day, and was fine for the dress rehearsal earlier in the evening. What happened? The young man was able to pull himself together and played beautifully, the audience kept him up there for one encore! It's beautiful in Chicago today, nice to see some sunshine. Happy Cinco de Mayo!
