The treble, *note 88-87 is usually installed "by ear" And there is a specific
measurement used by the factory to set hammer no.1 in the bass.

The woody sound is probably wood. But many time you can still get the piano to
Sing, if you "find" and set the hammer to to the striking point...just right.
On a grand, just pul the action in and out untill you find the greatest volume
for straters, then you may get a feel of what the piano may be able to give
you.
 Hammers are tricky. Just keep at it.
