Lance, Just prepare the surface as much as you normally would, and color your sealer coat with a little yellow/orange dye stain (you'll have to experiment a little with the color and mixture). If you're using traditional materials - orange shellac and varnish - you'll already have the color in the shellac. This hides those dark scratches, poorly matched sections and other sins a surprising amount.
