The term refers to the wood used in construction and the fact that it has been stained black or ebony. It also is an indicator that the wood veneering does not needfully match, different species, ect. Of course one reason a non ebony wood is "ebonized" is in preparatuon for painting/spraying it Ebony with some top coat............... If your particualr instrument is finished with only clear coats over the "ebonized" wood then you do have a challenge in front of you. Otherwise Black Laquer will do just fine. Be aware though that there 'are' different shades of black laquer or black anything. Jim Bryant (FL)
