Kranick & Bach Wippens

Eliot,

What is unusual about the K & B wippen is that the beam is shorter than
on any other piano to my knowledge. The one I rebuilt (1897) had a
couple of them that needed replacing and I found some wips in my junk
parts box that were close but I had to saw a 1/4" section out of the
beam and then rejoin with CA glue. Worked perfectly.

I also needed to replace some of the jacks and discovered that Schaff
sells them. This was about ten years ago but they might still have them.
They weren't listed in the catalog, as I recall.

Except for new hammers and damper felt, I rebuilt what was there. Very
time-consuming job but it was a beautiful piano and a family heirloom
also. Yes, it would have been better to replace the entire action, back
action and keys with all modern parts but the owner wanted the piano
*restored* as opposed to *rebuilt*.
