That's plain strings and agraffes, but I don't think that has much to do
with it since the noise is so general. Likewise for string seating and
bridge pins. Everyone always seems to want to try that first, and no one has
ever reported that it fixed the problem that low in the scale. I figure it's
a BIG problem that covers a significant area of the scale. Therefor, it's
probably a BIG part that's causing the problem. Well, yea, that's pretty
simple minded, but then so am I and this kind of logic has gotten me this
far so I'm sticking to it. Check soundboard glue joints, ribs and perimeter,
crown and bearing, and under plate for foreign objects. Grab each plate
strut while whacking keys to see if the noise stops. They can hum quite
loudly sometimes. Are the nosebolt nuts tight? Including the bell? How about
the lock, or the lid prop. They buzz in sympathy and sometimes sound like
something else. In other words, try to ascertain where it's coming from non
destructively before you attempt a fix. Let us know what you turn up.
