This has come up before and always seems controversial.  Many do it this way
and I've not seen any collapsed lyres as a result.  Still, I always wonder
as I watch it.  The local Steinway dealer's movers do it that way.  They
came and picked up one of our "D"s a couple of years ago, and the lyre
survived.  Since I only move pianos by phone, I guess I don't have a real
oppinion.
