Even though the Examiners use the FAC programmed tuning as a place to start and then refine it to the maximum, the tolerances that are built into the Exam generally provide for the amount of difference there will be. Most people I have have known of that had used an SAT and an FAC program passed the electronic portion of the Exam with very high scores. The problem was that when some of them were asked to do just 2 octaves in the middle aurally, they just could not meet tolerances. Now, the procedure has been changed so that each applicant must tune the first 2 octaves aurally at the beginning of the Exam.
