Hey Jim, If the semitone is defined as 2^(1/12), so that there are 12 equal-sized semi-tones - half-tones - to an octave, and a whole tone is can be defined as 2^(2/12) or 2 semitones, there are 6 whole tones in an octave. However, shouldn't the the question have read "how many equal-tempered whole tones are there in an octave?" Maybe Jeopardy would ask for this question. Clark
