Note in an octave

Roger,

Unfortunately the vibrational modes of a string are not so complex as a
scale built alternately from 2^(1/12) (an octave divided into 12 equal
parts) or 2^(7/12) (a circulating chain of 12 approximate 3/2's all of
equal size); that's where the work is, in music theory, composition and in
tuning - all of which frequently employ effects resulting directly from the
type of discrepancies that occur between the partials and a temperament.

You haven't been reading Webern or Schoenberg, by any chance? ;) I like
them, too!

Clark
