Did you see any signs of animal intrusion, especially mice? They like to 
travel up and sown on the strings. If not mice, perhaps some other small 
creatures, like roaches or even ants. They would leave a trail behind them. 

Pull the action, and use steel wool to clean the strings, That might make 
them come to life again. If that doesn't do it, you'll have to replace those 
dead strings.
