<< List,

Last week I used Susan's CA and yellow glue combination on a bridle
strap install and it worked very well and fast. Typically I glue the
straps to the catcher shank right where it enters the hammer butt. I
used a "brush" made from a piece of hammer felt glued to a hammer shank
to put a dot of yellow glue on the shank, did 6 at a time, then put a
dot of medium CA on the strap and held it in place for 3 seconds or so
with a BSHIP stick. (Bridle strap hold in place). This was two hammer
shanks glued end to end with a sleeve, one end carved to the curve of
the catcher shank. With the straps previously cut, gluing all 88 in
place took 30 minutes. That glue combination is my new friend, I should
 get a life.

Did you give the hammer butts their last rites? CA glue in my humble opinion
is excessive. Even with yellow glue. All you need is either hot hide glue, or
liquid hide glue. Should you even need to replace them again you can then
steam or clean the glue easily. With CA you cannot. By the way, with the
action upside down in the cradle, and the hammer butts facing up, I can glue
in the straps in 30 minutes or less, using the hot hide glue method.
