Pat,
I'm sure you would find it way too hot.  When bending shanks one has
to be constantly careful not to scorch any nearby felt.  I can't
imagine it working for hammer steaming, even on the lowest setting.
But it is an excellent tool for the other tasks you mentioned.

    The ultratouch soldiering iron in the Jensen catalog is good for
removing glue and bending shanks with its hot air it . Does any one
know it it would also work with the hammer steaming tip, for use as
per say in the May journal for steaming hammers. It is a portable
butane soldieing iron 10-440 ultratouch 40si maybe I could save myself
the space of another tool. Pat
