(just enough to keep the pipe from sliding) > Hi Lance, The long dowel allows a lot of flexibility for shims, solves the problem of different heights of grands, and weather you are doing a cap on a bass or treble bridge ect. The dowel must also fix the swing round problem. The reason for mentioning the 480lb pressure tested pipe, (it's white) it is very much stronger than the standard black, and has a lot more spring. This quality is approved for domestic gas lines, so think it should be of better quality. Hope this helps, and thank's for the tip.
