Hello again list.

Newton.. get your thinking cap on... grin

Ok.. another Yamaha.. this time its an older upright about 110 mm high.
You know the kind with the dunky bass. From around 1965 or so..

Action mounts... three... the middle one doesnt reach up to its mounting
bolt and its bent way down to try and reach it. When you put the nut on
it sort of covers the bracket so its held kinda in place. The outside
two are bent way up. The middle bracket is shorter then the outside two.
All three brackets sit evenly on the round supports on the keybed.

Jacks have been regulated at some time so that let off is about 6 mm
away from strings. way off.,, but then they like really clear the hammer
butt leather. This appears to be an attempt to avoid blubbering hammers
and it didnt work. The hammers blubber on hard hits, not on soft ones.
Seems like the butts are just bouncing off the checks. They (the checks)
are abit concaved, but look in good shape, and the butt leather is in
fine shape. Key dip is 10mm + so that should be enough. The brace screw
on the back of the action (the one that butts up against the plate)
appears to be just a bit in to far (scraping marks on the plate)

I have the action in for re-shaping the hammers and re-allignment of the
dampers (somebody butchered a damper job once). The reason I bring this
up is that I remember many years ago I ran into a small S&S upright with
blubbering hammers on hard hits, and plenty of clearence from the jacks
under the knuckle as is the case here. I never did figure that one out,
but as it was in my first years, and I havent seen this one since I
havent given it any thought. Any suggestions ??

I will give it a full regulation when re-installing so that might take
care of the blubbering, but perhaps there is something I should be on
the lookout for ??

Any ideas greatly appreciated.
