 How do you know that it had been "voiced more brightly"?  Could the 
"brightness" of tone be related to the more "positive" crown/downbearing 
rather than hammer "voicing"?

  This is not an uncommon comment for thingees with "flatter" boards/crown

As for the "pressure ridges".....don't worry about them, they are "design 
features" :-)
