I totally agree, and I am sure it was the fan the gave such a strange effect 
and caused the problem. 

I just mentioned that it was ultraquiet because without looking at it, there 
was no tip-off  that it was on. If it had made noise when I was listening 
hard, I would have turned it off and missed the tremendous learning 
opportunity it created.
