Hi Dave, long time no see. I don't know if gluing them on is better or not, but having just replaced a set that was glued on, I know for sure that it's a booger-bear to get off the glued straps. The set I took off was put on just the way you did, but I couldn't get all the old glue off without removing the catchers and using a shank reducer on the catcher shank. As much glue as the previous technician put on, it seemed like it created a heavier touch although I didn't measure it. Dave Streit AAA Piano Service Beaverton, OR You Wrote: Dear Fellow Technicians Today I glued a set of bridal straps on non holed catcher hammer butts. I prefer this over spring clip because they tend to get noisy. If the hole is there, I like to use the cork straps. Some feel the overall best way is to always glue them on. I have glued to the backside of the catcher. Today I glued right where I cut the old straps off. Is there an advantage in methods, either way I described? After several years in the business I have never really thought through the methods. What the bridal strap is there for. Repetition. Lining the jack under the hammer butt so it will not lock up the hammer. Other ideas? Hope I did not open up another can of worms. Dave Peake, RPT Portland Chapter Oregon City, OR
