Hello James:

I think that Joe Gross is right on the ser. no. and age.
Joseph B. Cornish was a sales agent for the "Beatty Organ Co".
located in Washington N.J. In 1879 Cornish bought the "Dawes
and Wyckoff Organ Co". At that time he started building the
"Cornish Organ". Later he started building Pianos. There is some
evidence that he only assembled parts that he bought from other
factories. "Cornish" like "Beatty" and "Wing and Co". only sold
by mail order. The "Wing and Co" Piano had 5 pedals and the
"Crown built by Geo P. Bent" had 4 pedals. These companies
were very successful. This is where Cornish may have gotten the
idea for 4 pedals. Most of the Cornish pianos used the "Strauch Bros".
action made in N.Y.
In the 1890s the "Cornish Upr. Piano" was advertised at $155.00
including a stoole and a scarf for the top of the Piano.
The Cornish Piano was of medium quality at that time.

  Hope this helps
  Regard,s
  Jack Wyatt
