Get yourself a decent bench-mounted buffing wheel (I have mine mounted on my Shop-Smith). I only need to use one or two grits of compound on my brass. I just did all the brass for a grand two days ago and it took less than an hour, including shooting them with laquer. They were real tarnished. Just hit 'em with the buffing wheel, dirtier pieces using a more aggressive compound. I did all lid hinges (including the long hinge) leg and bench ferrules, pedals, pedal rods, and a few other pieces. Super easy, Super fast, Super nice.
