Use 2 screws to secure the hinge to a long piece of 2x1 timber to hold it steady. (Just watch and see how much the hinge expands with heat) If it has been lacquered use a scotch brite belt (or a strong paint stripper) first to remove the lacquer followed by a good polishing wheel and cutting compound.
