Tuning a K.Kawai KG-2A this morning, I got to looking at the low tenor agraffes. They each seemed to be sitting on a rather deep stack of spacers, and I wondered why. I'd noticed this before in some other Kawais, but hadn't pursued it until now. It looks like close to 3 millimeters of shims under that low tenor agraffe, and appears to taper down as it goes up scale. Was this to maintain string height relative to the keybed - to compensate for plate warpage, erratic spot facing, or????? I haven't had the chance to chase down some measurements on one of these to answer my own questions, so I'm asking if anyone knows the story on these. Ron N
