It's probably a Steinert grand, with the standard WN&G action 
(including back action). But Arthur, can you be a little more 
specific in your description. When you says, "operates the sostenuto 
mechanism dowel", are you referring to the pittman? Whatever 
"operates" that would be down in the trapwork below the keybed. Are 
you talking about the U-shaped clip on the sostenuto rail which the 
top end of the pittman couples with?

I've got a Steinert B 5'7" in my shop now, which is getting new 
shanks (Abel) and hammers (NY Steinway).
