I don't know why Steinway doesn't use bushings, but perhaps the problem isn't 
with the lack of them, but with the technique you use. I don't have a problem 
with flag poling. It does not take me longer to tune a Steinway, or other 
bushless pianos, than those with bushings. Without seeing how you use your 
lever, I can't help you. But perhaps you should have a talk with one of the 
old timers.
