David, The problem may be the salt air of S.F. in conjunction with the graphite that Renner uses in it's bushing cloth. This is purely speculation, on my part, but I've had a similar problem on the Oregon Coast. As for where to get Methanol/Wood alcohol, try your local Pharmacy. Regards, Joe Garrett
