Many years ago I attended a class given by a toxicologist from the Canadian
government. It was at the Toronto natl. convention.

He said that breathing lac fumes might make you nauseous and light headed
but no permanent damage. If you do this 8 hrs a day for 40 yrs maybe.

Toxicity is measured by how much you'd have to drink to kill 50 percent of
the drinkees. Lacquer thinner is one pint. I was glad to hear that. I
don't mind the smell, but my wife goes bananas.

He did mention that they put arsenic in hammers in the early days to kill
moths. That's why its good to wear a mask when sanding hammers.
