Joe! I think it's what comes out of the other end of the horse that =
causes people like you and me to make our own stuff. I've always =
wondered how anyone can believe that they will make more money by =
antagonizing a large percentage of their customers.

    Carl,
the mismatch of the threads is intentional so that you will =
purchase only their tool parts.
Got that info directly from the horses mouth. They would like no =
competition

There were several posts about tuning levers recently.
      =20
I've found that using a 6 dollar shaft from Shaff number 16R. =
Then using a very hard super ball and epoxying it onto a 1/4 inch x 2 =
inch long brass nipple available at the plumbing store. (Drill a =
suitable hole in it with a hole saw or a sharpened steel tube.). Then =
use a 1/8 x1/4 reducer and attach to the end of the shaft. I found that =
some heads would bottom out or not fit properly. There must be a =
conflict between brands that are threaded either too much or too little. =
So I cut off about 1/4 inch of the shaft and chased the threads with a =
die.
      =20
The slight give of the hard ball gives it a good feel. =20
I'm looking for just the right ball that is firm but has enough =
give to protect the hand. I don't do much tuning but some have =
complained of hand problems so this might help. I'll let you know if I =
find just the right ball.
