We do (Oksana does) a lot of the same finger-numbing work in preparation for 
refinishing sharps. We use paper all the way down to 400 grit, and if there 
are holes or hollows, we fill them with a semipaste filler and then sand 
again down to 400. Then shoot them with satin black ultraflow lacquer from 
Mohawk. Rub out and shoot again, the rub out to preference. You can also use 
the gloss if you want to end up with a higher sheen.
