To JimRPT: The Baldwin SD6 and some previous versions had the slanted bridge notching. This was a copy of what Steinway had done for a number of years previously. My thinking is that this was done to make it impossible to tune perfectly clear unisons in order to give the impression of better duration in the 5th and 6th octaves. Later Steinways and Baldwin SD10s have gone back to maintaining equal lengths of the three strings of a unison for the purposes of getting cleaner unisons. Jim Coleman, Sr.
