Fort Worth, Texas, April 2002 - The Van Cliburn Foundation has announced the
75 selected participants for the third INTERNATIONAL PIANO COMPETITION FOR
OUTSTANDING AMATEURS, to be held at Ed Landreth Auditorium on the campus of
Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas, June 3 through 8.

Designed to encourage and recognize the importance of music-making, both off
and on stage, this event features pianists above the age of 35 whose
principal source of income is not derived from piano performance or teaching
piano. It will begin with the preliminary round (June 3-5), during which
each pianist will perform a 12-minute recital. The semifinal round (June 7)
will showcase up to 18 pianists performing 20-minute recitals. The final
round (June 8) will feature six finalists performing 30-minute recitals and
will be followed by an awards ceremony. The repertoire for each round is
unrestricted, except that a pianist may not repeat works from round to
round. All phases of the competition are open to the public.
