Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I forgot to check the leg screws, so
now I feel a little sheepish b/c I knew of that, though I've not had to do
it yet.  Ain't learnin' fun? ;-)

There was nothing from the pedal action that was causing trouble. I was able
to look with a flashlight under the keyframe for an obstruction, but did not
see anything. The action return spring might culpable--did not think of
that.
