That questions depends heavily on the amount of money you are willing to spend. When it comes to air guns nothing is better than BINKS.  A good one with a nozzle specifically for laquer cost around 250 dollars. I would not go cheap on the air gun as it will have a huge effect on the quality of your finish.  As far as compressors go, you need at least 100+ per square inch of pressure so that you can use it for air tools excetera.  Also if going portable you want a double tank so that you do not get a drop in air pressure in the middle of a spray job.  Crafstman makes great low end portable compressors.  Home Depot has a line but the small ones are iffy.  However the large versions of the Campbells are pretty good.
