Sure you can. It was just polished smooth and plated over. No match for a big 
hammer. If you can"t make a new hanger you"ll have to order it. In the 
meantime a quick temporary fix could involve a brass hinge pin cut and bent 
to the right size and superglued in place. The hanger bracket can be 
temprarily substituted by a small easily modified low water warning light 
wire mount that you probably have a hundred of already.
