Spending most of my time tuning and installing PianoDisc, I don't do many rebuilds. If I did maybe I would know the answer to this one. I am currently rebuilding a 5' Haddorff grand and in preparing to replace the plate I notice some holes that don't make sense. On the inside of the rim where the ends of the pinblock rest ( a shelf type area built out from the rim about 3/4") there are two screw holes on the treble side and one on the bass side. Looking into them I can see thread marks where screws have been, but there are no holes around the plate perimeter that match up with these holes and none of the screws are long enough to reach this area anyway. Examining the plate and the old pinblock show that the plate screws in the area of the pinblock go into the pinblock only, and not any part of the rim where these holes are. I am trying to remember when I pulled the plate if anything was screwed into these holes but I don't know what it would be since the plate covers that area. But it is driving me crazy. Why are those holes there? Am I forgetting something? Dave Bunch
