I have been an advocate of steam and alcohol methods for several years now, and recently have taken up efforts to begin to learn traditional voicing again. This time around I am fortunate enough to be assisted by the advices of a couple master voicers whose experience is ....well.. beyond question. What Im finding leads me to aggree with you. I think I am moving in the direction of leaving steam voicing behind. I dont think I will ever use in on a new set of hammers again, not even on most of the harder variants.
